Many times, throughout my 17 year tenure with AYS, I always find myself thinking: how can we, at AYS, provide better service to our clients? What can we do better? What can we share with our employees? What can I work on to assist with creating an environment of hospitality? These are questions I am sure many other professionals in hospitality work on as well.
However, to me, hospitality is not just a professional focus. It is in my day to day with everyone I interact - to look someone in the eye and say thank you or maybe make a silly joke to the Teller at the Bank that I see is not having a great day….what can I do to make things better, in general.
On Friday March 6th, I had an opportunity to make things better and continue that pursuit of hospitality outside of the professional realm. Myself, along with 4 of my AYS colleagues from the Sayville, Long Island office worked at a soup kitchen in Central Islip, NY.
We prepped, we cooked, we set up, we cleaned, we smiled and we served approximately 55 members of that community. What stood out to me the most that day was our team work and dedication each of us possess to bring that hospitality vibe where ever we go.
At the end of the day, a gentleman we served said to one of our team members: Thank you for coming today, you made my day.
That to me is the hospitality we embody and own at AYS - both professionally and personally, it is the service of service.
