How To "Win" A Triple Crown

On Saturday, with millions across the country watching, American Pharoah secured his place in history by winning the Belmont Stakes. Serving as the third and final leg of the Triple Crown, the annual thoroughbred horse race is held each June at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY. With the win Saturday evening, American Pharoah became the first horse in 37 years to win all three legs of the Triple Crown.

Behind the historical less than three minute long race is months of planning on the part of the on-site team and their off-site partners. So many details, including food and beverage service, security concerns, guest experience and staffing must be considered. But what exactly goes on, behind the scenes, over those planning months to host one of the most prestigious horse races in the sport’s history?

For At Your Service Staffing, the behind the scenes action is months – not minutes – in the making. When it comes time for AYS to send staff to the Stakes, selecting the ideal team to send into the field that day is key. For Belmont Stakes, the best way to do this is to begin by building the team from staff with previous experience at the race – providing such familiarity to the client helps the event run smoothly and go off without incident. It also ensures a successful event for all.

Once the staff is in place and the event details are finalized, the focus shifts to how to best get the team on site while keeping transportation concerns, security clearance and day of logistics in mind. For this year’s Stakes, the company had managers checking in staff as they left New York City bound for the race in addition to the company’s managers stationed at the shuttle location for a second check in and at the Stakes for coordination and final preparation. Having the At Your Service management team at each check point for staff alleviates the pressure from the client to oversee check in, allowing everyone to focus on the task at hand – putting on a successful event and “winning” the Triple Crown.

Congratulations to American Pharoah for making history and for all teams involved for another successful year. Bring on Belmont Stakes 2016!
